i have been looking on ebay for a dell system.its brand new sealed and i asked the seller about the warranty info because it has an extended plan.this was his reply:

"The warranty transfer process has been complete meaning you are now the official owner in Dell's database. Should you need technical support be prepared to provide your Full Name, Phone Number, Express Service Code, & Service Tag. Otherwise, you are all set and thank you again for your purchase. "

by purchasing on ebay im able to save close to a $1000. the guy has good feedback and many satisfied customers.anyone have any comments?do you think its buyer beware?i wouldnt want anything to happen say 2 yrs from now and not be covered.

    Take a look at this.

You can have him transfer the warranty to you, or you can transfer it yourself if you know both the service tag and the express service code. I just transfered the warranty on my e1505 to the gentleman who purchased it.

This Dell page answers your question more fully/officially.

    Cheers

1000 bucks off sounds fishy to me.

remember, if a deal sounds too good to be true, it is.

feedback has to be taken with a grain of salt as it can be easily manipulated to look good.

also, his response didn't answer your question, but instead looks like he cut and pasted it from somewhere else.

please tell me the seller is not outside the US as well?

    This is the international link.

I would also echo drumfu's sentiments--if it's too good to be true, it may be. What are you specifically looking at? Have you considered using the dell coupons and purchasing from dell direct?

i did get another email from the seller:
We transfer the warranty to our customers upon request so that you can Deal with Dell directly. After you receive the laptop just send us an email saying that got the laptop and that you want us to initiate the transfer. We will send instructions as to what we need from you.

its an xps unit and i cant use any coupons with it.
the seller is in the usa, plus ill be using paypal so if something is wrong im covered.but.but. what if i get an empty box?now thats scary!

I was also looking at buying off ebay so I called Dell regarding the transferring of the warranty if you are in the us and buying from the us than yes it can be transferred but if you are elsewhere than you can only get the standard warranty transferred not the complete care, this is what I was told from Dell. Also ask for the service tag number so that you can check to see if the laptop is new or if it is stolen. When I called Dell a second time about the warranty I was told that the complete care warranty could not be transferred as I was in Canada, but I was able to get a good deal with Dell directly. I was also concerned that I would get an empty box or nothing shipped at all.

Use credit card to pay through paypal & if the seller try some monkey business (sent you empty box) & you can't resolve it with the seller or ebay/paypal, do a "chargeback" through your credit card company & you'll not lose any money...

ok, no need for the sarcasm:

    check out ebay item

    £1100 for a high spec m1210

    configure on dell.co.uk same system = £2000+

albeit, everyone knows of dells inflated prices for extra RAM

(well this was when i did it last week - when I bought it, it seems they've finally updated their website to make it a bit more affordable).

a little exaggeration, and hey presto, £1000 difference incl VAT.

note, this ebay seller has sold over 10,000 dell notebooks with 99.9% positive feedback and that isn't an exaggeration

edit: try on ebay Item number: 110052152326

    Its GBP 1100.
Bal'thzar has it cheaper by more than a $100.
Probably because he is not paying ebay fees ?

Yes, I bought a brand new never opened Lap Top on e-bay. I transferred the warrantee & ownership under my name and did all the right stuff and when it came time to actually use their warrantee all was good until Dell found out I had bought it on e-bay. Bottom line Dell DOES NOT honor their warrantees if you buy it off of e-bay. Although Dell is one of the few company's out there that will allow the transfer of a warrantee they do not honor it if it's from e-bay. So be very careful if you buy from Dell on e-bay.

I bought 2 on my sig from Ebay, and had no problems.

M90 was 1450 shipped when it was on Dell for 2.6k before taxes,

M1330 was about 2.6k and I got it for 1875.

Just make sure to ask for a service tag before you buy one, check seller's feed back, and make sure he sells them all the time.

Ebay and Craigslist are great source to buy from if you becareful/use common sense a bit.

I've purchased computers off of ebay with no problem. However, I've always bought from the resellers with many feedback. I've had no problem with warranty transfer and I've had no problem with warranty repairs etc.

I don't know anything about them not covering purchases from ebay. Although, they never asked me and I never needed to tell them where I got the units from. You have to be aware of who you buy from as some people get replacment units for ones that were claimed "lost" or that were exchanges and they try to sell you the extra unit they have. You will not get support on these.

It doesnt matter where the laptop is bought or sold or on what site or back alley it was done in. The warranty stays with the laptop, not the owner.

I would want to be sure the ones sold opened by "refurbishers" contain all original or Dell-provided replacement parts. I am sometimes concerned that the units are being stripped of high quality parts and replaced with used and/or cheaply made junk.

Despite eBay's measures, scams are rampant. Therefore, it is best to use eBay only for those hard to find stuff. If something is too good be to true...

With the huge discounts on machines like the M1330 on Dell Outlet.. getting off of ebay may be a risky proposition as you could be sold a refurb as new.

Really by looking at it you can't tell. Dell usually puts a sticker on it that says refurbished but anyone can just pull that off. The only way to verify for sure is by calling Dell and checking the history of the service tag to see if it has ever been returned.
