it would be nice for someone to make available the "Installation" cd image, not the "Repair". That would be so handy, I don't get why dell doesn't provide that. I guess they don't want their technology so readily available.

Its available at NotebookForums > Dell > Core Duo
    > Look for a MediaDirect thread.

Unless you purchased a new HD, why would you need the reinstall CD? You can't delete MD inasmuch as its on a HPA of your HD.

BTW its very large, ~500MB on the CD and 337MB zipped.

    I'd have to second that....

The Reinstallation CD should NOT be used unless you have replaced your hard drive.

A repair CD (either make it yourself, or use the utility that's on Dell's Resource CD) is what you need.

Now I get it!! Theres a difference between the Media Direct repair CD and the Media Direct Intsallation CD. The repair CD is on the dells support website and the installation when is available for $10 by calling dell and asking for one. I was wondering why people were shelling out 10 dollars for something I thought they could download for free. Also when I want to repair my media direct, does it have to be repaired in the beggining startup of the system. Like i have to press fn f12 or something. Or can I just boot it up in windows?

It's essentially a DOS boot floppy, only on a CD, no floppy drive. So yes you need to boot from the CD, meaning F12. Be sure you get an F: prompt.

Thanks, I found it. How I see it is that one day I might need that cd, so it's good to have it lying around.

just use "burn image" function under the tools? menu and open that file then burn. Yes it's very small.
