    anyone know about the onboard Audigy shipping with new inspirons ?

    I'm very interested, but there seems to be very little info available on them.
    but does it have 5.1 outputs (as in, so i can hook up to my logitech 5.1's ?) else i don't really see a point to it.
    I may as well get an external Audigy, as it's not so much the sound quality that i care about (the intel HD is pretty good) it's the ports.

    From what I've gathered on this forum, it is not an onboard Audigy, but rather a software "overlay" on the default onboard Sigmatel audio chipset. It does not physically change the chipset or the outputs. The only thing you gain is EAX emulation... but at what cost to CPU performance? AFAIK, no definitive testing has been done to show the impact on the CPU or sound quality.

    I opted to keep the default sound option and I'll wait for an ExpressCard solution.
