This is my 2 year old Inspiron 6000 being on after 6 hours...and I really do enjoy working around laptops with this kind of temp. Are the new Dell 1520s like this?

My dad has a 6400 Inspiron...and it gets a tad warm compared to my 1400. Mine doesn't even get noticeably warm.

There is no way your CPU is cooler than your HDD! And the answer to your question is no because your 6400 is not running that cool.

It really all depends on the ambient temperature along with usable. At room temperature, it usually hovers around 40oC, 34-37 with a cooling pad. When it is under full load, it can get into the 70 range, never seen anything higher than 74 (it was almost 90 degrees outside when I was using it though). I think at the higher temperatures, my cooling pad is definitely doing its job. Overall, these stay pretty reasonable as far as head is concerned.

SpeedFan usually reports lower temperatures compared to other temperature monitoring software especially in notebooks.... I8kfangui, hmonitor are better ones known to report more accurately I guess....

My i1520 is reading at 36/40 (Core1/Core2, respectively) in I8KFanGUI...

So I'll say yes they are that cool...

try using core temp to monitor your cpu. it doesnt monitor hard drive but it gives an accurate reading. speedfan told me my t7500 was 46C when it was under load for 3 hours straight which is obviously wrong. when i checked it with core temp it read between 65 and 68 which is obviously where it should be.

Tempted to check that out on my SSD as I know it will blow that away. My fan hardly ever comes on at all except when I plug in my 22" and run an extended desktop.
