just did a fresh install on my studio 17. one thing i realise is occasionally i will get horizontal lines showing on my screen. this happened before i did the format on my laptop aswell. one always appears during the shutdown screen, a horizontal black line at the top of the screen.
i installed the latest drivers from ati and windows which reduced the lines appearing when i was using the laptop, but occasionally they still show up when scrolling or opening a new page.
i want to know if this has happened to anyone else???
I know its not an issue with the screen and that it is a driver issue or i would have been screaming down the phone to dell already.

any help would be appreciated. :D

How did you determine it wasn't the screen? It does sound like the video card is giving you issues and might need to be replaced.

This happened to my computer aswell. A friend of mine told me it was driver issues, and he was right. After a driver update the lines stopped showing. It doesn't happen now when I'm sing my laptop, but only when the shutdown screen shows. I think I can live with that. I was just wanting to know if anyone else had this issue?

I'll give it 2 days and see if it annoys me enough to call Dell. I just don't want to go through rebooting so many times just for them to replace the graphics card.

Well if it just appears during a shutdown then it shouldn't be a big problem. At least it wouldn't for me as I never shutdown. I would just keep an eye on any future updates which may resolve the problem completely. But also make sure it doesn't start having more issues.

Ok, I'll keep an eye on it. If it starts to get worse then I will be calling Dell.
    Thanks for the help atbnet.

    Sure that you have a 3650? I only find drivers for the 3600 or maybe the 4650? Anyway, look at h t t p : / / ati.amd.com/support/driver.h t m l (sorry for the spaces but I had problems posting links)

I'm sure I have a 3650, it comes with the Studio 17. Thats what I was wondering when I tried to search atis drivers page, they have nothing for the mobility radeon 3650s. I did read in another thread though that ati have stopped making the drivers and now make the companies create their own drivers for the card. Something along those lines anyways.

Latest ATI Mobility driver avail at: http://catalog.update.microsoft.com/

You could also use the Catalyst 8.10 since its a unified driver backwards compatible with 3650, 3450, ect...

Engineer isn't quite the term I would use to describe the field techs. I wouldn't let one of those guys anywhere near my notebook...

Bloody great!!!! Got a called from the so called dell "engineers" saying that they have no motherboards in stock and that my scheduled appointment for tomorow is now cancelled. Thinking of sending this laptop back, saving some more money and getting a mac. I really needed this **** laptop aswell for all my uni work. 3 weeks of waiting for nothing almost!!!!!

As you can tell I am quite annoyed at the moment!!!!!!!!!
