Hi, I have had my Vostro 1500 for about a month now and have noticed that the little HD or CPU light on the upper right hand side right below the power led is always going, it almost never stops like morse code, and the lower left of the laptop is always clicking softly but like 100- 1000 times a minute even if no tasks are running, i havent installed new hardware or run anything intensive, just use internet occasionally and a few other things, but this occurs when i am doing nothing ... is this normal?

You could try to disable indexing service to see if it's related to hard disk indexing

i have the same problem with mine and can confirm that disbaling indexing makes no difference as i have it disabled. It only happens when the laptop is first turned on for about 5 mins or so but after that it runs fine :)

Do you have any particularly active process in Task manager?

    Have you run antivirus/antispyware scans?

If it's not indexing services, it may be anti-virus backup database creation.

If you use Avast, I know for sure that this feature is turned on by default. Basically, it scours your HDD and records down the current state of your files so that if a file becomes corrupt, it can revert it back to a state when it wasn't infected instead of having you delete it completely and thus losing all the data the file contained.

I see, I had turned off the Indexing but that does make much difference, when i run task manager it shows between a 3-7% useage all the time which i believe is normal OS, but when i run RMclock it shows cpu useage at between 30-50% this is with no programs running just OS and i disabled unused startup programs. i go rid of rmclock becuase i couldnt use it properly but always the morse code clicking and led flashing, ill check the virus thing i use Ad aware7 and AVG currently.
