My nephew asked me to have a look at his notebook as he said the battery does not last very long and he has had it for less than a year, so i ran hwmonitor and it say the battery wear is at 36%, but the dell battery tester says the battery is ok, green, the dell center says the battery is moderate.

So what can my nephew do ????

We live in the UK, so everything normally has a 12 month warranty.

    Thanks

    John.

I got a new battery but I'm in the US. Dell sent the replacement FedEx Next Day with return shipping label.

36% left or 36% gone? If it's 36% left, i'd say that's slightly worse than normal, but I don't think Dell would cover it. Then again, I could be wrong, so it wouldn't hurt to check with Dell just to be sure. If it's 36% gone, then I'd say you're doing super good on that battery.

I know with my old HP Compaq nw8440, half of my battery capacity would be gone after a year, which is apparently very normal for my model.

I just did a battery calibrate and now it shows 30% of the capacity gone, eg 30% wear level, i think that is the true level now, I have been telling people for years, that if more that 10% gone i the first year get a replacement.

But i just wanted to know if anybody had any experience dealing with dell on this issue.

    thanks

    John.

No Experience with Dell, but it took 4 years for my N50 to get to 30% wear, ok I babied the battery, but still, 30% in a year is still high in my opinion, you loose nothing by trying.

I agree with the others, Call Dell and see if they will replace it.

I would look for a laptop battery recall on their site. I did for my Inspiron 6000 almost 7 yrs ago and filled out a form. They sent me a new battery with a return shipping label. They actually sent me three for some reason, in three different boxes. I could have kept the other two but I sent those back with a note saying they were duplicates.

I dunno what you run, but my Inspiron 6000 with Win XP and 2GB of Ram. I was getting 5h30m out of a 9 cell battery with the replacement...I sold it 3 yrs ago. I bought that particular model because the battery life was the selling point to me.
