I have this beaut of machine since Sept 2005, with its original battery (6 cell). It is now 2 months since the battery will not charge and hold charge. I think it is dead. It does not run on battery at all (no power), but on AC.

I wish to purchase a new battery. Could you lead me to the reliable site (shop) where I could get one without breaking the bank. Dell's price is out of my reach right now.

    Much appreciated,

    S

Have you try to check to see if your battery is covered under recall? My 700m battery was not cover under the FIRST recall, but it was covered under the SECOND recall. Dell sent me a 9 cell battery pack and I shipped back my 4 cell battery. At the time, it won't last more than 30-40 minutes full charged. 9 cell battery last about 5 hours on average.

If your battery is not covered under recall, you can check out eBay. Usually, eBay are much cheaper than retailed price.

I doubt it.. I have 700m and the last I've checked, it is not covered under recall.

Truthfully, if you want cheap batteries, go to ebay :) Or google for 3rd party battery reseller. Make sure to get the original Dell battery if possible.

I got 9 cell and it is still in good shape after 3 years. Could easily do 4 hrs on it.

700m is covered, my 2 x 9 cell batteries were replaced last year. If you have a laptop and the batteries are affected then they will replace. It depends on the batteries not the laptop model.

Ebay is your best bet for 700m batteries, they are cheap.

Following models "maybe" affected, but like I mentioned before, its the battery and not the laptop that warrants a re-call

    Latitude: D410, D500, D505, D510, D520, D600, D610, D620, D800, D810
    Inspiron: 500M, 510M, 600M, 700M, 710M, 6000, 6400, 8500, 8600, 9100, 9200, 9300, 9400, E1505, E1705
    Precision: M20, M60, M70, M90
XPS: XPS, XPS Gen2, XPS M170, XPS M1710

I entered the serial number on the dell battery site, and it returned "no need for replacement"; Dell tech support said the same thing.

    I will check with eBay
