    battery not recognized?

    hello my daughter has got a dell inspiron 6400 running with vista home premium and it is showing a red cross on the battery icon and saying battey not recognized,i put her battery in my laptop and it said 100 %
    any ideas please of how to get around this as when she takes the mains plug out the latop dies within minutes?

    The motherboard is bad...
    I come accross these several times a day with the exact same problem.

    If its under warranty contact dell and they will replace it along with the powersupply..
