Okay, here is my situation. I am looking at the 9100 trying to decied what config to get. This is what I care about.

bang for my buck (aka speed)
don't care about hard drive space
decied on wsxga screen, dvd/cd-rw (no dvd-rw), 512ram

the main question I have is should I spend my money on the 3.2 GHz or the 7200rpm HD.
If it was one or the other what should I do?

Also is it worth waiting for the prescott processor (1MB L2 cash) or just take the northwood(512K L2 cash).

Any other suggestions that you might have would be appreciated too. thanx

I wouldn't wait for new processors either, unless you anticipate doing something in the next 2-3 years that current processors can't handle. I would lean toward telling you to do the HDD upgrade as well with one caveat. The HDD is easy to upgrade later if you want, where the processor is not. You may consider hitting the processor and plan on budgeting $175 or so for the 7200 RPM drive in the next year or so. Just one more thought to make a hard decision harder!

I'd have to agree with Slat on this.

    I myself got the 9100 with 2.8Ghz cpu, 512mb pc3200 DDR and
60Gig 7200rpm HDD and don't regret it at all.

Gotta love having a notebook running memory in dual channel and a CPU with HT technology, both formerly desktop territory only.

If notebook RAM weren't so pricey I'd have gotten a full Gig but haven't felt a lacking so far. CoD runs without a hiccup, smooth as silk all setting high! [ :D]
