Dell Latitudes have robust and good looking body compared to Inspirons. Price is higher too. But power and performance/price wise the cheaper Inspirons are much better than Latitudes.
Latitudes usually have 512mb to 1 gig ram
Hard disk 40gig @ 5400 rpm
If you select same configurations on Inspiron 6400 and Latitude d820, you can see how much more you are paying for the plastic and the looks of latitude.
Latitude's got some atitude!

Latitudes have other differences-modular optical bays, metal underbody, little to no spamware, better overall construction, trackpoint, more security & connectivity features.

I think it's worth the Latitude premium just for the lack of spamware, because I hate having to reformat my systems, so if I don't have to that's brilliant.
Inspirons are supposed to be the consumer stylish notebooks, but how come Latitudes, IMO, look better than Inspirons? Well the Dx20 Latitudes looks far better than the 6400/640m/9400 of the Inspirons. -
I would have gotten Lattitude instead of an Inspiron. I didn't because of the video card selection. (Dell, what were you thinking when you decided on the white plastic?) I'm getting used to the looks just a little. Lattitudes are indeed better loooking and built sturdier.
better plastic in Latitude compared to Inspirons
