My m1330 seems to have bluetooth enabled (at least the LED on the laptop is on), but the software says its disabled. I have to enable it, then redisable it.

Is there something I can do to disable it to start on bootup? This is for windows XP, not Vista.

I too would like to know how to make it off by default and only turn on when I want it to. Using the switch would turn off my wireless as well.

Try to use Quickset Location Profile. You can set it off there. You can set up another location profile with BT on and do manual switching profile to turn it on.

there is a wireless switch that goes from on to off, then there is the other switch, that I have been told is for bluetooth, but it does not seem to do anything.

There is an option in msconfig that says bluetooth (which there is also an icon in my startup) that says bluetooth. I had tried removing it, but it still lights right up when I turn the laptop on.

I had not tried VISTA yet though, but I do not think that would make a difference.

I do recall installing that, but I do not see any options to run quicket from Start > All Programs. Where should I look for it?

The BT radio will still be powered even if you don't load the driver/helper on boot-up by disabling it in MSConfig or elsewhere.

If you leave the Wi-Fi always on, the best thing to do is to use QuickSet to change the function of the switch to control only the BT radio. This way, you can have the BT radio on or off, at will.

QuickSet should be always running and represented by a tray icon (typically in the lower right, next to the clock). If you click on the tray icon, you should be able to change the functions of the switch, in there.

You will save battery life by leaving it off, too, if that helps.

Using a Vostro 1400 and QuickSet just used the Locaton Profiler to make a "Default" Profile with nothing associated with it except Bluetooth off.

There are bios settings that can be used to turn wireless components on or off (of course, if you want it back on you will have to go to the bios again).

I do not have that Samuel613, the quickset thing. I did remove all of the partitions on my hard drive before the windows XP install, was that one of them?

Download it from Support.dell.com. There is a new version released a couple days ago.
