my BT used to work in Vista and XP

but every since my friend installed a dodgy program that would let him use his phone as a mouse it hasn't worked in Vista, it works in XP so hardware is fine.

I removed that program, got latest drivers from Dell and Broadcom, removed it from DeviceManager and tried again but nothing works, Vista and the software/drivers think it's working but it does not communicate with any device.

are there old drivers or something i could try

Well, if you have tried both DELL and Broadcom drivers then I’m out of ideas. Try removing those and see if you can use Vista default drivers. From what I remember when you install a 3rd party driver (DELL or Broadcom) you get two BT icons in the control panel (the default one and an extra one; either having a different icon completely or the same BT logo but with a lighter shade of blue), make sure you remove the additional one and there is only one icon (the default Vista icon)

Can your phone see the computer ?
