Dell's definition of Boxing is shipping from Malaysia to their US distribution center. I'm in the same boat as you. Our computers, on the other hand, are in a different boat.

Asia is where the laptops are made. The HP is made in Shanghai China. The Dells come out of Malasia. Chime in if anyone knows where other laptops are made.

Dell should be more specific about that. I was upset too but then I found about the malaysia thing. That should be a sticky on these forums explaining what it is and Dell should be more specific about it on their website.

Dell does have a page that explains the boxing issue. Mine was in boxing for 3 days, so yours should be shipped soon. I get my 6000 monday!

Not too much to complain about, i read somewhere that 80% of what Americans use is made in a foreign country. I don't think any of the main, mass produced computers are made in the US. Except for like Alienware, and the specialty computer makers. Also is this boxing making it go over your estimated ship date?

The problem is that everyone (me included at first) thinks that Boxing stage means they're putting everything in a box so they can ship it to you, when it really means the entire process of shipping from overseas to the USA.

They should call it something more descriptive like "Transporting" or something not "boxing".

You may try calling and using the automated order status on the phone. It is updated more often than online. Mine says "production" online. When I called the system said it was in the "build stage".

Call: 1-800-999-3355, option 2, then option 1. Make sure you have your order number. The system askes you to say the order number. You can also type it in with the keypad if the voice recognition isn't working well.

Well maybe the US Dells are made in Malaysia, but I called up the sales rep in HK and they say it is built in China. It only takes a week at most for a dell to be delivered in HK as I asked last time.

    Friday, Mar 4, I ordered my I6000D
Sunday, Mar 6, hit the "Boxing" stage
    Stayed in boxing 3 days
Wednesday, Mar 9, it went straight to "Shipped"

I checked the UPS Tracking and it wasn't in the system until late Wednesday night.

Thurs, Mar 10, UPS says it's "Rescheduled" for delivery Tomorrow, Fri, Mar 11. But at 1:18am this morning it was scanned "Arrival" in Hodgkins, IL, which is only 17.7 miles or 28 mins (according to Yahoo Maps) from where it's supposed to be delivered, where I sit here typing this!

I'd be really upset if it could have been delivered today, but they let it sit there because Dell "rescheduled" it so it would arrive later, sitting for a day in a warehouse all lonely and unused!

    Status: In Transit - Rescheduled
    Rescheduled Delivery: Mar 11, 2005

    Shipped to: CHICAGO, IL, US
Shipped or Billed on: Mar 9, 2005
Tracking Number: XX XXX XXX XX XXXX XXX X
    Service Type: GROUND
    Weight: 13.50 Lbs
Note: Your package is in the UPS system and has a rescheduled delivery date of Mar 11, 2005.

This is so cool. Mine was in boxing for 3 days also, but now it is here tomorrow on a fri. so i have time to set it up over the weekend.

and this was with 3day ups shipping. darn, i would have it already if it was the upgraded shipping.

oh well, will update when i get it and post some pics.

    thanks all
