It will not read any cds or dvds. Music, games, or blank cds! I tried uninstalling driver but it reinstalls itself everytime i reset my laptop and it still doesnt work. My laptop is still under the basic 1 yr warranty but i dont think i can afford to send it back, probaly will take weeks! Is there any other options for me? Would dell take just the drive back if take it out of my laptop myself. If not, how easy is it to find a cd/dvd drive that fits the inspiron 6400 so i can just buy and change myself.
    thx

before you call Dell, try push the Optical drive firmly to the notebook chasis from the side (not the bottom), it could be just a loose connection.

BTW, you may need a reboot or force a PnP search after the "push". If optical drive still not detectable, then call Dell.
