as the topic says, can i buy my laptop from us dell website and ship it to canada, since its cheaper that way. so if i do that, would i pay canadian taxes? and how would my warrenty work, do i have to sent them back to us for service or could it be done in canada. I know that it would be better if i ask dell directly, but i cant seem to find there e-mail. help me by either answer my question or provide me with a means of contact with dell. thank you

I'm not 100% sure, but I don't think they let you do that. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Coriolis is dead on. If you have a US Dell (as my 700m was) and you want to exercise a warranty return, you need a US address for them to send the packagin to and....they will not send it back across the border...again must be US address.

Canada WILL NOT honour the warranty.

Yeah, the shipping address also has to be the end user address, so to that end, you can't ship it to a U.S. PO box and then drive across the border and bring it home. They won't ship to PO boxes or the like.

I've actually found that many configurations are actually more expensive if you were to order from the U.S. site, anyway (even taking into account the strong Canadian dollar), so the whole thing is moot.

I thought about getting my Uncle and Aunt to order a Dell in US, but it wouldn't be worth the drive/bus/flight to Boston. Dell.ca has some pretty good deals on this week for the Ispirons (no good XPS deals though) and almost the same price as the US configurations.

Dell Will honor your warranty internationally if you get the 3 year warranty. THis then entails anywhere in the world there is a dell service center. Had the instance where bought a Dell here in the states with 3 year complete coverage and went to toronto for awhile with my wife's parents and they warrantied it there.
