I would rather have a Professional edition and I already have a CD from my dell desktop, so should i get a laptop as home edition or pro edition for extra money? Someone told me that reinstalling XP pro is not good for your HD cause it has already been installed and permanently ingrained in the HD..or something like that, that it's not as clean as new. THanks!

xp home and xp pro are identical in performance except that Pro has some options that home does not (specifically in the networking area)

I got XP pro because I connect to various networks all the time, wifi-and hard wired, and if I ever run into an issue I want to be able to set my own network settings.

If you aren't too worried about that, then go ahead and get xp home, however, I really really suggest you get xp pro if you have the money.

Also, if you are a college student, you may be able to get xp pro for a very cheap price (cheaper than upgrading at dell) at your university book store.

As for reinstalling XP pro beause it is permanently ingrained....that is pure poppycock.

When you reinstall XP pro OR home, you must reformat the hard drive to remove the "ingrained'ness" so that you have a clean install. There is nothing wrong with reinstalling xp pro, so long as you do a format of your hard drive.

Yeah, cause I will be in a college and I want to be connected all the time, so Pro would be better for me

Every college I have seen requires pro.

You might want to check it out to be sure but I'd be willing to bet that your college requires pro if you want to connect to the internet.

Where are you going if you don't mind me asking?

I'll also be going next year.

I will probably choose between i9300 or i6000, but I looked at Toshiba satellite(spelling?) 30x or 35x? and 45 and it seemed really good too.. I don't know much about IBM.. Are they worth my money and trust?
    (planning to spend about 1100~1400
    Thanks!

I would say go with Pro too. If you get the 9300 or 6000, make sure to get Intel Wireless card. Its easy to configure, notifies you of networks that you can connect to, and saves profiles if you plan on accessing different networks.

Personally, I would suggest going with the 6000 if you plan on taking it to school everyday. I got the 9300 for college/grad school, but it is such a chore to take it to class. Its heavy, and trying to find a carrying case for it has been a nightmare. Plus the screen is so huge, that anyone around you can see what you are doing (big negative if you plan on playing games when the professor is around [ :D]).

My friend has the 6000, and she takes it to school everyday. Its more portable than the 9300, but you can customize it to have the same features as the 9300 with the exception to the screen. The battery life for the 6000 is also longer than the 9300 (mine is about 2 1/2 hours if I'm lucky).

I also have Toshiba Satellite. Its good for college, but you don't get near the options and discounts that you do with Dell. Dell has the 750 off coupon right now, plus you can customize it more to your liking.

    eekkk...sorry about that.
You might just want to keep your eye out for coupons on here. They had Dell Deals of the Week on the Dell website, but for some odd reason they aren't offering them right now. Still the prices on dell are pretty good right now. They've gone down on the 9300 and 6000.
If Duke is offering discounts on Latitude, they might be offering discounts on the Inspirons. You might wanna call Dell Customer Service and see if it is worth or not.

    Congrats on Duke [ :D]

haha thanks, but I just went and put the coupon code any way and on the shopping cart and the coupon still works..even though it said "not available" Does that mean it's not going to work when I actually try to purchase it?

As long as you use the coupon by the expire date (May 12, 6AM), then you should be able to use it. Sometimes, they put a limit on how many times the coupon can be used, and once it reaches the max limit, then the coupon will automatically expire. I don't think that is the case with the ones out this week.

Don't worry if you can't use it by May 12, or if it expires. Dell releases coupons either every week or every other week. If you check on the main page, it will update when new coupons are released.
