I've seen on EBAY that some reputatable auctioneers are selling great dell laptops at very good prices, saving hundreds of pounds on high end XPS M1210 models.

    such as here

the catch is that these are "new" but Dell's "cancelled orders" as it says near the bottom of the page.

Is this a safe way to buy? They claim the product's warranty is still valid so I'm quite tempted to buy from them instead of direct from dell.

60% of what you buy on Ebay is stolen. Which is very likely for new notebooks.

    Buy at your own risk.

I usually don't use online auction sites like eBay for large purchases, but I do have one rule: If the price is too good to be true, then it probably is.

Dell has a policy that does not allow any new laptops to be sold on Ebay unless it is by an authorized dealer of dell. Ebay is suppose to remove all auctions of new laptops at the request of Dell, but this doesn't always happen so I suggest to skip out on buying from eBay.

Dell does sell laptops on eBay, but I'm not sure of what their name is.

Like any other seller on ebay, I would look first at the feedback...(10000+ transactions with a 99.9% feedback is obviously very good)...also if you pay with a credit card, there are certain protections that you are likely to get...(check directly with your CC company on this one to find out for sure)....

Id be inclined to give someone with that amount of feedback the benefit of the doubt. But it is a risk since it's still an expensive purchase.
Id play it safe and just save a lil more to buy from Dell, you know you're getting the real deal then.

If that is in fact true then it's not enforced at all. A large number of users resell Dell laptops when there are hot deals on them and they aren't authorized Dell resellers.

60% huh lol, where exactly did you come up with a number like that from? I would say it's more like 6% or less.

If you pay through PayPal and use a credit card you can easily get your money back if there is something wrong with the laptop. PayPal will almost always rule in the favor of the buyer if there is something wrong and then if they don't your credit card company will.

the problem is that PayPal will take 3 months just to get your money back. i had to wait that long when a seller shipped a 2005FPW monitor that was in VERY poor condition...yet described as NEW on the auction.

obviously, i won the suit...despite his attempts to constantly debunk the process of the return.

Normally PayPal is always suppost to file a ruling within 30 days. If they don't after 30 days then you should of filed a dispute with your credit card company and you would of had your money back two months earlier.

i think it is now 45 days...in any event they notified me that an extension had to be made on the case.

oh well, at least i did get it back so i'm not too worried...
