I'm going to look at a secondhand latitude d600 tomorrow. What I want to know is what to look for.
How can I tell (beyond the word of the seller):
if the battery is six or four cell?
if the battery is still performing?
if there's any dead pixels, beyond a quick glance?
if the winxp pro is a legitimate copy?
whether the wireless is b/g or just g? btw: what's difference?![]()
whether the screen is xga or sxga+?
will I need a screwdriver to tell if the 512mb is on one or two sticks?
if the hard drive is sound?
are dell warranties transferable?
any other advice?

You can only take his word on the dead pixels unfortunatley. If there are one or two I wouldn't worry about it unless it matters that much to you.
b/g is the same thing as g
It will say if the screen is XGA or SXGA+ - try to get the high res screen, it is sharper, unless your eyes won't take that high of a resolution.
You can use CPU-Z or everest home edition to find if there are one or two sticks of RAM
Dell warranties are transferrable.
That's about all the help I can offer. Hope you find what you are looking for!!
Oh, BTW, I don't know what your budget is, but the Latitude D510 is pretty cheap, might want to check out one of those before you buy. -
Ask them for the service tag number. You can then look it up on dell website and find the configuration at the time it was purchased. They may have upgrade it since. If it is SXGA it will be pretty noticeable. How much are they asking for it?
