I've been browsing this site and forum for nearly a month, trying to figure out what laptop to buy. There's been a lot of helpful information here, thanks for that :).

Anyway, this is the setup i'm going to buy.

    Inspiron E1505
    Windows® XP Home
    1GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2
    256MB ATI MOBILITY™ RADEON® X1400
    60GB 5400rpm SATA Hard Drive
    8X CD/DVD Burner (DVD+/-RW)
Intel® PRO 3945 and Dell 350 Bluetooth Internal Wireless Cards
85 WHr 9-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery

all for ~$1,200. But i'm wanting to use the coupon code R99GSKKQQ23S4$ to save 30% off any $999.00+ Dell Inspiron notebook. The code works by lowering it to $900.20 in my shopping cart. But when I proceed to check out, i come to the screen that asks me to pay for it, and it says $1,086 again for the total (not including shipping).

I'm confused. Do I continue to buy it and it only charges me the $900.20 + tax, or is the coupon messed up?

Any suggestions? I would love to pay $100 less for this :)

hehe, whoops, i meant that it was ~$1,200. The $1,086 number was already with the $200 off discount for shopping there. The 30% off coupon just cancelled it out. So it was more like $300 off :)

so it works now? I'd talk to one of the live sales reps and see if it works with them.

Someone can lock this thread now because I just right now bought my system over the phone at dell. It turns out that the 30% off coupon has expired, not because the June 29th date has come up, but the 4,000 uses have been used up. Fortunately for me, i got a good deal with my sales guy, who got me $400 off of a similar notebook :).

I was one of those 4,000 uses!!!! Call dell and place your order over the phone and ask for a student discount. You will get around $100-$120 off the final price!

Or just wait until Thursday for new coupons. Dell has been releasing similar coupons just about every week for the at least the last 2-3 months (that's as long as I've been keeping track). It's also been rotating through different free upgrades (hard drive, dvd burner, 1gb ram, router).
