when i use the video record program (dell webcam manager or w/e) the recorded sound is fine. but when I use it in CS:source, sounds like a frog got shoved down my throat or it sounds like the really old computerized microsoft voice.

anyone having problems using the mic (in game or what not)?

I would never, ever use a built in mic in game. The codecs for these games are highly compressed.

You would NEVER want to use that mic for in-game CS:S or Vent or TS or anything like that...everyone else listening will want to slap you!

Your topic says Vent / TS, so why use the built in program / built in voice chat via games in CS:Source?

er when i say using a microphone, i'm using a headset with a mic

acaurora, i meant vent/ts as in programs outside of the "dell webcam manager", have to use voice chat via cs, if i want to talk to people in game that i don't know.

the reason i ask this, is because on my old laptop (insp 8600), the headset mic worked fine in cs

Well then, I fail to see the relation between a headset mic and the webcam mic software?

i'm having problems using the microphone in game. I know its not the mic itself because it works fine on my other laptop, and it works fine when I take video with audio using the dell webcam sofware.

my problem is using the microphone in games - I was wondering if anyone had the same problem, fixed it, or had any ideas (and this seems to be a problem on my 1420, because it worked fine in game on older laptop as well). hopefully that clarifies it.
