Hello, i was wondering, if i purchased the Dell Vostro 1700 could i be able to upgrade the ram with other brands or is the ram system in Dell notebooks proprietary? with price included i get 1 gig but $150 for an extra gig is a bit much.

You can upgrade the RAM. It just won't be covered in the warranty.
