The only things you'll be able to practically upgrade are the processor, memory, and HDD. You can use any Socket P processor with an 800MHz FSB or lower up through the T9500. You can use up to 4GB of any speed of DDR2 memory. You can use any SATAI or SATAII HDD or SSD.

Dell provides a manual describing how to replace these parts: http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/ins1420/en/SM/index.htm

Nonetheless, you cannot upgrade your GPU, so it's going to be pretty useless to try and "upgrade your laptop for gaming".

I just said that you CANNOT upgrade your GPU, so there isn't going to be any "upgrading your laptop for gaming". Especially if you currently have the X3100, which that GM965 implies.

IN my opinion save the money for a new laptop. wait for the new refresh of processors (the ones with intergrated memmory controllers for laptops).
