some keyboards have a "power" key near the "insert/home/page up" keys. if the laptop is closed and turned off, can a usb keyboard turn on the laptop?

if anyone has a usb keyboard with power key, would you mind testing this out?

I don't think the USB keyboard can turn the computer on, because it's connected to a USB hub, and that USB hub isn't powered, because the laptop isn't on. But it would probably work to turn the computer off.

I´m also very interested in turning on my m1330 without pressing the power button. Is that possible at all?

I've been trying this with all of my laptops and have had no luck. With the m1330, there is a setting in the bios to allow "wakeup from sleep" via usb keyboard. If you put the laptop to sleep while the keyboard is plugged in, the keyboard can wake it up. Must have AC plugged in for this to work. If you plug in the keyboard after the computer is already asleep, it doesnt work.

I was hoping that I could bring my sleeping laptop from home, plug in the power, hdmi, and usb, press a key on the usb keyboard and be good to go. Doesnt work that way.

You can do it with the Wake-On-LAN feature from another PC or router in the same network
