Will a inspiron 1420 with those specs be able to run those games well (max settings or atleast medium)?

    T7100 or T7300 (1.8 or 2.0)
    Wxga+
    2gb memory
    120gb 5400 rpm
    8400M GS graphic card

I'd like to be able to play Farcry, NHL08, Madden08 and Need for Speed (newest one).

Yes. Although the 8400m GS is not as powerful as the 8600m GT, it will still play those games on medium settings at least.

Any other opinions?? I'm not a big gamer but I'd like to be able to run a couple games without them being all "choppy". Is the 1420 enough for what I need?

Let me put it this way for you. The 8400 GS can run Oblivion with almost all settings on high and still get a more than playable frame rate.

You can expect good performance (medium-high) on the games you listed. However, you may have trouble with games like Crysis and Bios, but you don't care about those (at least in your post). I'd go ahead and get the 8400 GS.

The 1520 with the 8600 gt would be much much better if you can afford it. Much more future proof in my opinion.
