    I'm debating whether I should cancel my Vostro 1500 (currently in production stage) for 1400. The main reason would be weight. At first, I thought the weight wouldn't be much of an issue. But, taking into account the fact that I haven't been to a gym in years, I'm having second thoughts. I'm planning on travelling a lot with this laptop. The 1+ lb difference puts 1500 out of the thin-and-light category.

    * If I order it today (July 29), will it ship before September?

    * The deal on Vostros expires in two days. You think the prices will go up? I believe Dell has no reason to slash prices, since they've sold enough

    * I've heard partially successful stories of installing XP on 1400.

    * Additional 1GB RAM on 1400

    Is it worth it?

    They have 30 days return policy... they'll even pay to take it back.

    Give it a try ... if it's too heavy, send it back.

    The difference is less than one pound. How can one pound possibly make any difference? You're not going to be doing over head press reps. You'll most likely be throwing it in a laptop bag with accessories that will total up to more than the laptop itself. If you're planning on putting it under your arm and taking it everywhere with you, then yes, you might notice. Otherwise, its absurd.

    If you're a commuter that isn't a wuss like the rest of this nation and you actually use your two legs to get you about, then yeah you're going to feel it.

    but then you are already used to carrying yourself. adding 7 lbs to 150lbs (assuming he is lightweight), is insignificant if you carry it right (like in a case or backpack).

    Its tougher for a wuss, because he is not used to all this hard work.... :p :D ;)

    btw, I returned 1420 (which I got exactly because of weight concerns, I found it to be heavy enough that another lb won't make a difference) for a 1520 because I really wanted 1680x1050.

    At first I thought this thread was a joke.. now I think OP was serious. 1 lb difference?? 1 lb!! Are you running a marathon with it? If not then I say its super silly of you to even worry about it.

    Well, that ADDED weight of 1lb will make a difference when you take into account the already high weight of laptop + adapter + bag

    Well, for me, it was the incentive to get 1520, because if I am carrying 7lbs for 14.1" laptop, I might as well carry 8 for a 15.4" laptop. If these numbers were 4lbs for 1420 and 5lbs for 1520, I would probably not have gone to 1520.
