TBH, it depends on the price and the components. IF you tell us what you config then we can help you.
-
thanks my config is in my sig
-
ps how is the windows 7 beta? i cant wait for it to actually come out
-
Aside from the specs I usually check for cosmetics first, then look for dead pixels lol
-
Unless there are any glaringly obvious flaws, you don't have to do much "checking". As streetmagus says, make sure the exterior is nice and clean, devoid of scratches, and make sure the display does not have any stuck or dead pixels. Beyond that, just make sure your temperatures are relatively normal (I recommend HWMonitor). If anything's wrong internally, it will be fairly obvious soon enough, so don't waste time searching. And enjoy your new laptop!

anthony11, stop posting multiple messages and threads about the same notebook. Cross posting, as well call it, is not allowed on these forums per the forum rules. All of your threads have been merged.
Please don't do it again - cross posting is extremely bad forum etiquette. Thank you. -
Thanks Chaz, but dammit...now I have to delete all my replies since they make no sense in one thread.
-
I agree multiple threads on generally the same topic is clogging up the same forum but I do think your question is interesting and I'm glad you asked it since im in the same boat. (getting a studio 15)
-
yea that is annoyin haha sorry. but im a little upste with dell now cause my edt is now 8/14.... a month after i ordered it and quite frankly im worried about it getting delayed over and over like so many people have posted... and mastershroom.. do you think it would be worth my time and money getting programs like everest and HWMonitor? and any help with deleating the mcaffe thats gonna be on it? cause thats just garbage
-
If I were you, I would reformat and install Vista from scratch. Dell gives you a Windows disk to do that. Just pop it in the drive, restart, boot from disk, and format the Windows partition. Then, install the drivers from support.dell.com.
HWMonitor is free, and it's very small, downloads in seconds. I wouldn't pay for Everest, though.
When you reformat with a fresh install of Windows, the McAfee anti virus won't be there, so you can install whatever AV software you prefer. I use Avast. -
yea i kinda get free avast for my desktop but thats from a glitching buddy of mine. and so all i have to do once it comes is just use the windows vista disk(that will be in the box?) and do what you said above?
-
Yep, that's basically it. And what do you mean "kinda free" Avast from a "glitching buddy"? Avast is completely free for home users.
-
one of my friends works with software and stuff for a living and he managed to get me professional edition some how for free... i didnt ask how i just thanked him haha he used to be a microsoft employee but quit cause he didnt like the company.
-
I see.
As far as I know, there is no difference between the personal and professional editions; you just have to pay for corporate volume licensing with the professional one. -
oh well. by the way when i reinstall vista should i do what this guy is telling me to do? http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=157838
-
No, you don't need to worry about the MediaDirect or installing AHCI drivers or anything; the Vista SP1 disk includes those drivers.
Pop the disk in, restart, hit F12 to select the boot device, and choose CD/DVD drive. Let the disk load up, and choose to install Windows. In the formatting and partitioning options, erase the partition that Windows is already on (and the recovery partition, if you wish. I did), and create a new partition in the unallocated space. Choose to install Windows there.
The installation should take care of itself at that point. All you'll need after that is drivers, which are available from support.dell.com for your particular model. -
so just pop it in and let her do the work pretty much?
-
-
-
You can get any of the pre-installed applications and drivers from support.dell.com in the Drivers & Downloads section. Select your particular model (Studio 1737) or enter your service tag.
-
ok sounds good. and another question... i forgot to put bluetooth on my laptop
what can i do short of sending it in cause i dont wanna do that
-
You can buy a Dell 370 Bluetooth module on eBay for $20 and install it yourself. It's what I did and it works fine.
-
and that will fit the 1737?
-
Yep, it goes into your WPAN Mini-PCIe slot. You have the necessary antenna already installed, even if you don't have the card.
-
and where is that slot? im not 100% sure
-
It's under the bottom panel of your notebook.
-
ok thanks and your prob gonna be mad now haha the cheapest 370 card is 10 bucks
-
Haha, oh well. The money's already spent, and I'm happy with the purchase. It's worth $20 to me.
-
i want this one right?

do you think i should upgrade anything else to? like my processer, or my video card? or is what i have good enough? fyi i dont play alto of high graphic games and i just mostly watch movies and play music
-
-
ok sounds good saves me money haha
-
and to be sure i just have to put it into the WPAN Mini-PCIe slot do i screw anything in? and what about the programing? dont i need to install some kind of driver?
-
There's just one small screw that you'll need to tighten the card to the system board. And yes, you will need a driver, which Dell has made available on their support download site.
-
hopefully the guy will send that one lone screw haha and sounds good ill try to find the driver. do i have to pay for that?
-
No, drivers are free.
-
arggg i cant wait for my laptop. i tried calling a service rep but all they said was its in production.... how much longer do you think?
-
I'd say the best you should realistically hope for is a week before the estimated arrival.
-
the only reason its taking so long is cause of the screen. it delayed it, but i cant even figure out which sub-stage its in, in the "in production" stage. id rest a lil easier knowing its not just sitting there collecting dust but its actually going through the system
-
If you're from the US try calling (800) 283-2210 then selecting option 3, option 2, option 1, option 1, and then enter your purchase ID. It will tell you the sub stage your laptop is in. Hopefully yours is already in the boxing stage!
By the way I received my laptop 2 weeks before the Estimated delivery date.
-
thank you streetmagus i called and its in the build stage haha i cant wait its gonna ship on the 7th it says and 3-5 days delivery.
-
LG screens are generally better
I had Samsung in my new 1737..... -
yea thats y i got it but its taking so long... i just want my laptop so i can be done with the wait. but its says its supposed to ship in 12 days 8/7 and be here by 8/14 i just hope i dont get a delayed date like everyone says....*knock on wood*
-
