just had time to install windows 7 w/ my upgrade CD Dell sent for my studio 1555. The installation went great but for some reason 122 GB of my HDD is being used up. I though i did a clean install since i clicked advanced settings rather than upgrade. So why is my HDD have 122 GB taken up?

hahaha! No! I did a clean install of Windows 7 too.. No such issue. Someone here will probably know what's wrong. MAYBE space used up by System Restore OR Dell Local backup crap?

Did you clear the partition before installing win7?

I think you forgot to, it gave you the option when choosing which drive to install win7 on.

thats the thing i never got a option to clean the partition. i though it had something to do w/ the upgrade disk not letting u clean install. Does it matter if I didnt install from the boot? I just put the disk in then installed.

Yeah you have to click format when you install 7. For now though, do disk clean up, and delete your old install. See how much that frees you.

so it looks like i have to boot from the disk to make changes to the partition but when i put the disc in and restart i cant seem to press f2 or f12 since they are controlled by playback function and wifi button. I tried holding FN then pressing them but the computer doesnt seem to boot from the disc. any help

Hi truebullfan. Hope you got your windows 7 up and running ok. I think it took me longer sorting out how to do it than the actual installation itself.

    I wanted a clean install.
So i used wired internet connection.
F12 to boot from Win7 disc.
    Custom Install.
Deleted windows C: partition and dell restore partition.
    Create new partition.
    Install Win7 to new partition.
Install Quickset and Card reader drivers from Dell site.
Checked everything was ok and went to bed happy.

Tonight I've got to install rest of software, update drivers and the usual tweaking.

What's funny is, now I've done it, I kinda miss Vista!! lol
