Ok, so I recently ordered an M1330 with a 3-Year NBD On Site Warranty. Now I've been having second thoughts as to whether or not I should upgrade to the CompleteCare warranty. This is the most expensive laptop I've owned and I'd hate for something to happen to it.

I take really good care of my stuff and have not had anything happen to any of my equipment yet.. but accidents do happen.

Did you get CompleteCare on your new laptop, and do you think I should go for it? The cost here is $150 CDN.

Well, for me the Care plan gave me a 19% discount and I also take great care of my belongings. Trust me...all it takes is one mistake to mess something up.

I've had my Sony Vaio for almost 7 months now and I took great care of it...and one day I tripped over the wire and it fell...

That's why it's called Accidental Damage Protection...accidents happen.

I would've gone for it if I have more money. Seriously, I think it is important, it's just that I was really short on moola when I purchased the laptop.

I got the Dell Care Plus which is the 3 year warranty, which includes theft and accidental damage, but its not the Premium. Theres only 1 thing that Premium has that the Plus does not... a "13 month, phone based expert help on wireless, setup, and security". I don't think its worth just to have help with wireless, etc...

Edit: By complete care, do you mean the Premium?

In Canada CompleteCare just means the accidental damage.

What you should ask yourself - what 150CDN can buy for you? And how much do you value your peace of mind :) If you compare the options, you'll find your answer. No one else can tell you that, 'cause it's really boils down to personal preferences :D

Complete Care is just accidental coverage in any market AFAIK. It is part of the bundles larson mentions.

In the US I think it is possible to cover accidental damage under home owners insurance. Is this true?

I did get "complete care" because as part of my student discount it was only like 20 dollars more than a standard 3 year.

Anybody able to tell me when your complete care starts? Does it start on day of order or on day of delivery?

My XPS M1710 is being predicted 3 and half weeks after the order which im worried my complete care i paid for is ticking while the notebook hasnt even been built yet!

Anybody know which date it starts from?

The cost depends on what you are comparing it too. In Canada, it is a $299 + tax upcharge from the standard 1 year warranty...

I bought it. I wouldn't even consider dropping $1500+ on a laptop without it. I'd rather front the ~$200 now and have the peace of mind for the next three years that if anything happens it's going to get fixed or replaced at no cost to me. I just don't have the money to buy another laptop if something happens to this one, and in my opinion this is cheap insurance.

Yes and No. Yes my laptop came with 3 years of complete onsite coverage, but it was free. My school had a deal with Dell and we received free warranty service.

I canceled my 3 yr care to make my m1330 deal cheaper... but i'm sort of having second thoughts now. Is there a 2 year care? Is it cheaper/worth it?

Also this 3 yr complete care, does it include accidental damage? I mean they call it complete, but then theres also a separate accidental care.

One more... if anything i can always add this once my laptop gets in, correct? Will they charge me more to do it then?

accidents do happen. i dropped my current laptop a couple of times and the screws started to fall out. i mean it's not like you're going to throw your laptop out the window, but tiny cosmetic things like a big dent from dropping or a key stop working because of spillage would even make the deal more worth while.

I have complete care until this October. I don't think I will extend it because I plan on upgrading by the holidays. Any new laptop I get will have CC, no matter how careful you are, accidents do happen.

Just an update... I found out about a discount (after I emailed my CSR about getting it added of course :D) so I ended up cancelling my order and re-ordering. I did add CompleteCare this time :)

P.S. I sent him another email letting him know.

Wouldn't dare order a laptop without it.

Besides it being "an effective tool", it's also magic for those of us who are clumsy enough to break laptops by spilling water all over them.

I didn't go for extra cover - but I like the fact it exists because it gives Dell information on failures and accidents and a motive to make the laptop more durable.

Having spilled a liquid on a laptop before, I opted for complete care. Assuming it happens again, paying for complete care now is cheaper than paying for a new motherboard somewhere down the line...

Even if I never use it, it's nice knowing that I have it.

CompleteCare covers everything that can happen to your laptop with the exception of fire damage (which should be covered by renter's insurance).

I voted no to this poll a week ago but I called to cancel and reorder with completecare. It was a $20 upgrade with discounts, so I think it was well worth it.

this is my first lappy with complete care, and although its part of a bundle for a $1500 laptop its well worth it..esp for the next THREE YEARS!
im actually thinking about upgrading it to 4yrs..why? because if it breaks 4 years down the line they'll send me some comparable :D - meaning a new decked out laptop

what the life expectancy of an xps anyway?

i dont see why you wouldnt get complete care, spend 1500-2000+ on a laptop and cheap out on the $69 extra dollars for accidental care, if even that after discounts

i have the 3 year warranty and complete care because it came with my schools thing, but i would of still probably ordered it

the complete care in Canada is $299 for 3 yrs..
makes me kinda effy about getting it...since the laptop I'm getting is only $1317, adding the complete care w/ 3 yr warranty = $1600....

Well if you care about the laptop... why not 2 year complete cover?

2 year complete cover was a 40 dollar add-on for me, without the discount.

I'm getting Complete Care with 3 years of just about every type of protection - warranty, CC, LoJack, anti-virus (which I don't even need thanks to university). Last desktop I got I didn't even get beyond the basic warranty, but with a much-more-mobile (and expensive) laptop I don't want to be left with a $400 bottom-of-the-line one if something does happen to it.

Me and Prodigy live in australia, and the CompleteCare is only for 2 years.

    So it's a $39.60 upgrade from 2 year limited...to 2 year CompleteCare

I just bought the M1330 and didn't get any warranty whatsoever except for that base 1 year thing. I've never broke a laptop or PC and don't intend to. Only my Inspiron 8500 ever broke down on its own but that was after almost 3 years of faithful service. I was happy it broke down though because it allowed me to go buy a new one.

well heres how i see it, i'm not that clumsy of a person so theres very small chance of me dropping the laptop. assuming that i actually do drop the laptop, and with the new magnesium alloy chasis and strikezone in the Inspiron/Vostro even if i do drop it from a desk chances are it'll suffer cosmetic damages at worst.

i plan to sell my laptop after 2 years anyways, resell the current laptop for 60-70% of its value + 100-200 dollars i would have wasted buying warranty= another new laptop. besides i already have 1 year warranty + 1 extra from AMEX.

just think about it this way, Dell is not stupid the additional warranty charges are calculated so they at least break even, i'd like to think i know far more about computer maintenance, repair and troubleshooting than the average computer user so its more like i'm paying a premium for their ignorance if i chose to get extended warranty.

well in my eyes the chances of a my laptop breaking down in 2 years is extremely small, have at least 7 2+ year old dell laptops in my extended family none broke down yet. also theres no way i'm going to spend 200-300 on warranty for a 600 something computer.
