hi there
i have just orderd and inspiron xps gen 2 fully loaded and a xps gen 5 desktop also fully loaded, i really fancied the logitech dinovo media desktop so i orderd it with the desktop with the intention to use it with the laptop. Now heres the question. will i be able to use the keyboard, mouse and media pad with the ixps2 integrated bluetooth or will i have to use the base station. If i do have to use the docking station's bluetooth, will this interfere with the ixps2 integrated bluetooth using the microsoft drivers or can they work side by side?
im sure somebody out there can help me with this
thanks very much
alex

It will probably work with the internal card, though you still need the base to charge the mouse. The mouse and keyboard can only work with one machine at a time, so it won't impact the desktop at all.

The new keyboard and mouse set will work with the internal bluetooth adapter, but don't quote me. I have the Microsoft bluetooth wireless mouse and it works fine with my XPS gen. 2, the Microsoft Intellipoint software even works fine though it is not needed.
I have heard people stating that their Logitech mice work fine but I have not heard anything about keyboards, it shouldn't be a problem though. -
Logitech has provided a nice FAQ / Howto for these situations:
http://www.logitech.com/pub/pdf/bluetooth/enu/installing_uninstalling_logitech_desktop_for_bt.pdf
Read at least the pages 10 and 11. According to that, the devices work (and I can't see any reason why they shouldn't) if the protocol stack has HID (human interface device) profile support. Their SetPoint software, however, doesn't work and hotkeys and lcd display (in Media pad) doesn't work. I'm not so sure if this is the whole truth - some simple hacks may be needed, though. They are using the Widcomm protocol stack as their drivers and the products have CSR manufactured Bluetooth radio in them.
By default, if the installation program notices another Bluetooth in computer and the media hub is still installed, it uses the media hub only for these Logitech keyboard and mouse, and the existing Bluetooth support for other connections.
I have used the set only with my desktop and the "media hub" as the Bluetooth receiver. Nice keyboard and mouse BTW, although the mouse is kind of power hungry - not so much power saving modes used, I think. With the media hub as the cradle charger, this is no problem for me. -
Thanks very much, just what i was looking for.

kornchild2002,
I have the MS bluetooth mouse also and everytime I use the middle scroll wheel to tilt right, the Dell Media Experience software starts. Is your doing that too? I am using the MS Intellipoint driver that came with the mouse. I am not using the Toshiba BT driver from Dell and use XP driver.
Thanks.
complicated question ? bluetooth
