It contains a software calling dell MediaDirect
as i know , dell MediaDirect is a kind of win xp embedded.
but,
if
win xp home+dell MediaDirect=win xp MCE??
p.s.: it's too troublesome to reinstall MD3!

no, media direct is its own thing, MCE05 is windows xp pro with some advanced networking features cut, and a few digital enhancements tacked on

Actually Media Direct is a cut down version of XP running a multimedia application resembling XP MCE interface developed by CyberLInk. It is stored in a hidden partition and loaded by pressing the MD button.Therefore it is kind of like XP MCE but low on resources. I think this special edition of XP loads up only the bare minimum required to play multimedia files; it disables unwanted services and system devices like Wireless adapter, BT , LAN adapter etc. to improve battery life.
