I won't be doing much gaming or graphical intense apps... i probably won't be doing any.. so I think getting a 8600 GT would just be for bragging rights and just IN CASE i start gaming?
I will definitely be:
creating music and encoding music files.
using Microsoft office
some photoshop
chatting
surfing the net.
just basics like CPU, GPU, RAM, Harddrive, maybe accessories?
thank you.

Screw the 1520, dell's new vostro would be more than enough for you, and about 400-600 dollars cheaper. This one in the link configured, as is, costs 600 before taxes, and its a pretty nice machine. The only thing that you might want to upgrade is the wireless card, bluetooth, and ram. But you should never buy ram from dell, check out the ram deals thread for great prices.

wow! i basically built the same config with the 1520 and a vostro aside the 7200 RPM HD and the express audio card, and the price is really like 400 lower!
why is vostro cheaper?
and does VOstro support 7200 RPM harddrives? -

I dont know why they are so cheap, but Vostro 1400 and 1500 are in fact, Inspiron 1420 and 1520 with a black chassis. Therefore you are not missing anything.
Both Vostro and Inspirons support 7200RPM disks (as I said before its the same machine) -
why don't they have the option for Express audio card or for 7200 RPM harddrives?

they are a business line of notebooks, so i guess the market doesnt demand those features.

I needed my notebook for about the same reasons as you. I might be doing a little PC gaming, so I wanted it to be capable of that. I was going to get the Dell Vostro 1500 with the 8600M GT. I saw the 1520 and decided to toss in a couple more hundred to get that instead.

The easiest way to decide between a vostro and an 1520 is to decide your price range. If its less than 800ish go with the vostro, if its more than 1000 go with the inspiron. Those are just ballpark numbers so don't take them too seriously (oh and i wasnt including warranties in those prices).
could you help me configure an optimal 1520 for my needs?
