Well i had a little scratch on the cover of my 6400 and i now i have that huge crack across the whole dell logo. I use this notebook as a desktop replacement and i barly move it around and i didn't see this huge crack last night. What could be causing these scractes and cracks? Is it possible to replace the covers to these laptops?

Hmm, what kind of environment do you have your laptop in? That could potentially be a cause. Quick-snaps might cover it, but if you want to replace it its a different story.

Sorry to hear that though. Hope you solve your problem.

Get the laptop in a bright room and turn off the flash on the camera.
That should keep the reflection from being a problem.

did the laptop turn back on at all?

Are you talking about the part that goes around your display when you are looking at the screen (aka Bezel)? or are you talking about the part of the lid that you can't see when the laptop is open?

Either way, you should be able to get them replaced fairly easy. Mine cracked around the hinge area because the screws came loose and it was too much weight for that area. The bezel is just plastic, so it breaks easy.

Nope my laptops screen stayed like that and i checked if the power button was flashing and it wasn't so i had to hold the power button down to turn it off and i had to turn it back on. I think theres something wrong with my screen because i closed the lid for overnight and when i came back to it the screen was still on while it was closed. The lid with the dell logo is scracthed and cracked. (can't get a picture cause theres a huge reflection of light from the dell logo.

Where did the scratch come from? In any event, I'd call up DELL tell them what happened and cross my fingers that they'll try and help you out.

Worst case, they charge you to fix it.

well i'm waiting for the quota on my system exchange. i thought my problem wasn't that bad before so i emailed them asking if they could cancel the system exchange cause i didn't want to go through all that hassle exchanging it. Now i'm waiting for their reply ad i guess i'm just going to tell them to give me the new system. Is it possible to also swap a screen in case my new system has dead pixels.
