the base version is $3k but is not customizable at all. they had another windows xp version that allowed you to select your color (grey on black obviously as all the other color choices screamed "i am a child!") for about $100 dollars more. but now they bumped that price up by another $400 dollars by forcing you to get 4 gigs of ram at their cost. whats worse is that windows xp cannot use 4 gigs of ram

    very lousy.

i bet you can call up customer service and drop a couple english f-bombs at them and they will drop the price to the original $3,100 for the xp version of the m1730 with color choices. it does not make sense to order 4 gigs of ram with windows xp as it cannot use them.

If it had better graphics options than the 8700 GT I'd have ordered than instead of the m9750, but I haven't entirely been impressed with it in my Toshiba. Not a bad card per se, but for the sheer price of the laptop, I don't think the overhead justifies for the performance of the cards.

For a starting price of $3K (not including tax, shipping) it should have the fastest cards you can get. Period.

Well, I got into a chat session with an XPS Rep about that this very subject. He specifically told me his hands were tied and that he could only offer the Windows XP version with the 4 GB of memory while at the same time admitting that Windows XP could not recognize 4 GB of memory. He said it could recognize 3.3 to 3.5 GB. He stuck to the same story when I mentioned to him that every other version of the M1730 offered comes with 2 GB of memory standard. I have escalated the matter to his supervisor so we'll see.
