    i want to know what will be the custom tax of exporting a laptop out of the US

    isnt the tax the same for every country. i have a relative would will be taking it out of the US so i wanted to know.Also is it possible to take 2 laptops on a plane

    no, taxes are different in every country, hell in the US taxes vary from state to state.

    In the UK the tax that you pay on imports is based on whats called a commodity code, each code represents different types of item.. different codes get different tax rates. An import tax of 10% is pretty common.. so lets say it worked out like this:

    cost of item (converted): £600
    10% import tax: £60
    Sub total: £660
    VAT (Sales tax @ 17.5%) : 115.5

    Total: £775.

    All the above centres on the fact that your relative declared the item at customs of course. If the item is not declared I daresay you'd get away without paying a penny - albeit illegally, I guess this would be the same for most countries and I'd advise against it!

    Go and find your countries tax service website and have a look, the information should be pretty easy to find.

    I'd say stick one in his luggage and take the other as hand luggage. If nothing else is looks a bit suspicious carrying 2 laptops.

    Check with the airline, some only allow a single piece of hand luggage, if he is allowed two put one in a rucksack and the other in a laptop carry case..
