every time my system resume from hibernate, or just starts up in general, it makes a loud BEEEP when the wireless card connects to a signal. Thing is, regardless if sound is on or off, the computer still make noise. How so possible? thanks

I had a similar problem with mine. I'd bought it back in January, used it everyday for multiple (at least 3-4) hours and never had an issue. Then for some reason about a month ago, the damn thing started making a super-loud beep.

I still don't know what started it. Only two things had changed pre- and post-beep. I had recently received a Windows update (hmmm... possible cause) and had begun using it with an external monitor at home (less likely).

I read through the forums at Dell and elsewhere... seeing this is not an isolated issue. I tried changing all of the sound setting, muting everything through the control panel, but nothing stopped the LOUD beep. I ended up going into the registry and disabling the damn PC speaker.

It's a more drastic and less-than-ideal solution, but I don't hear that stupid beep anymore. (Plus the single speakers sounds like crap anyway, and I always run the sound out to external speakers if I am listening to something anyway.)

Don't know if this is helpful to you... but it is my personal experience.

Instead of disabling the System Speaker in Device Manager, just disable Beep. That way you will not get the loud beep and still keep the speaker. In Device manager, first click on 'show hidden devices' under the View Menu to reveal the Beep device. This worked on my D620 and I hope it helps for you as well.

    Regards

The Beep Device is found within the Non-Plug & Play Drivers menu...

    Thanks for the input, srf.

Yeah, I had seen that recommendations in the forums as well for the D420 problem, but it still beeped after doing that (others reported the same problem with disabling the beep). I really have no idea what started it and why it could not be disabled.
