Hi, a few questions for D820 owners. I am coming from years of Thinkpad usage (currently T43p) and looking at Dell as I will be self employed and probably can't justify Lenovo premium for less media features.

I will be working from home 80% of the time / 20% air travel. The 80% of the time the notebook needs to be a desktop replacement ... which the T43 is today.

    1) Is the D820 too heavy for travel? I know they reduced the weight from the D810
    2) Does anyone know if the D820 will fit in a Tumi T3 bag???
    3) Is the 1920 x 1200 resolution worth it for 20% usage? I like lots of display area and will probably use a widescreen 1600 x 1050 display when docked.

    Thanks!

My girlfriend has the D820, so here's my thoughts based on my one-day experience with her laptop.

    1) It is about 6.5lbs (a little more than my nc8430)...doesn't feel too heavy at all. Backpack or side notebook case is fine.
    2) ???
    3) I'd say that you'd need REALLY good eyes for 1920x1200 on a 15.4" screen...I'd stick with the 1680x1050 personally.

If you want even lighter (4-4.5lbs I think) and aren't really going to need uber graphics power, I'd suggest you look the D620 as well. The smaller size might also benefit you when you're in a plane (it doesn't take as much space on the tray).

I just got a D820. The weight of mine is 7 lbs. Its not too bad to carry around in a backpack or whatever. I think it would be fine for travel. But if you want to take it from place to place during the day, I would recommend something lighter. For your use, the D820 should be fine. I got mine for a mostly desktop replacement as well but with the abitlity to travel or take to school when I desire.

I have 1680x1050, its nice gives me much space. I could only imagine how small the higher res is.
