I just updated my notebook to a11 BIOS version and since then I have been having some strange issues like high cpu temp, cpu throttling...
I thought I might try degrading the BIOS but when I launch the flash utility of an earlier version(A09), it says that it cannot proceed as I have a newer version installed. I have already contacted Dell support, but the technician had nothing to offer but an onsite visit to change the motherboard which I declined (I have had a bad experience with those guys)
In short, I need help in degrading the BIOS from A11 to A09

wen u run the bios updater it opens winphlash right?? there are 2 paths in that window.. one specifies the new BIOS file location.. just go to that location n u can run the winphlash manually! u can choose the bios manually n u can untick the option that says somethin to do with newer versions..
I'm not sure how far it works tho! i know i've tried it once n i think it worked! memory's a bit hazy!
if ur not able to figure it out i can give u some more info later! -
Thanks buddy
I have successfully degraded the BIOS
Now, I have my fingers crossed. I hope this improves the cpu temperatures.
By the way, which BIOS version are you using??
Do you have similar issues?? -
I'm using the latest one.. I've always had the problems irrespective of the BIOS.. Throttling has stopped now tho coz where i stay is quite cold at nights...
Does it throttle for u only while playing games? or otherwise as well? -
Alas! The degradation to a09 bios did not help
By the way, the problem of high cpu temperature started only a few weeks back. Earlier, it used to be around 50-55 all the time but now it seems to stay at 65-70 and occasionally shoot to 80-90C. The only change is that though ambient temperatures have gone down, air circulation has also reduced and that, I think may be the cause of the problem.
The only case of throttling, for me happened during game play when cpu throttled to a 1X multiplier. By the way, my cpu is i5 540m. Are you using i7 quadcore?? Because I have heard of throttling only on the quadcore -
ya i hv the 520m and it does throttle!!

The first thing I would check for is a dust bunny in the heatsink's "vent" area.
