dell 1520 video ddr 2 or 3?

hey im considering buying the dell inspiron 1520 15.4"
When i look on dells site, the laptop graphics card is advertised as """"NVIDIA® GeForce™ Go 8600M GT with 256MB DDR3 dedicated graphic memory"""" ,

however , when i actually click on the laptop to customize it, under the graphics card it says the same thing but DDR2.

is this card ddr2 or 3 and does it make a difference?

 

also anyone know what dells g8 gt's are clocked at?

 

The difference should be marginal. Maybe 100 in 3Dmark06,have to confirm on that. The clocked speed is likely to be stock speed,as dell doesnt usually underclock or overclock their cards.

 

no the difference is not 100 points...its 1000 points...you can see it with the asus g1s and the zepto 6224

 

You can also say that the Zepto has a 1.8GHz processor and 1 gig of ram compared to the G1s' 2.2Ghz processor and 2 gig of ram. Surly that will have an affect on the '1000' point difference.

 

3dmark ignores anything other than the video card I thought. I think jam12 is thinking about PCMark?

 

No, I'm talking about 3dmark. I'm sure I've heard people saying that an increase in processor speed and memory should produce a higher 3dmark score.

 

the zepto had the same components as the asus! so the point-difference shows the difference between GDDR2 and GDDR3 (not exact, beacause aof different motherboard, but nearly!)

Not exactly the same components, the G1s has better cpu. I just check the forum you got your informationf from, Zepto 6224 with T7100 2MB L2 1.8G, 2GB ram,scores 3592 in 3Dmark06 in 1024x768. Thats not too far from what G1s with T7500 2.2G 4MB L2, 2GB ram,scores, which is 3816 in 3Dmark06 in the same resolution. But the G1s has better processors,which justify the 200 points difference in 3dmark06. The two are similiar in performance. I dont see the 1000 points difference u were talking about.

 

where did you read? in 1024 the asus had 4800 points in 3dmark!! not 3800!

Just called and asked dell, and apparently if your configuration confirmation doesn't say its ddr3, then it's ddr2. Can anyone else confirm this independently?

*On that note, does anyone have ddr3 specifically mentioned in their confirmation?

I doubt they'd do that. There'd be some massive complaints. It's all either DDR3 or 2, and I'm leaning to 3, as they only have one bandwidth listing for the 8600GT, and it's 22.4GB/s, which correctly correlates with the DDR3 versions.

 

Does anyone of the US Dell's have it? I would be a little more than upset if they just randomly gave certain people DDR3 or DDR2. The website is not clear. Anyone know how to find out for sure?

 

All the support people I've talked to say DDR3. All the bandwidth listings for the 8600m GT from dell say 22.4GB/s of memory bandwidth, which is correct for a 128bit memory bus running at 1400MHz (700x2), a clock speed which, atm, is found only on DDR3.

I'd put money on it being DDR3.

 

You think it might be possible they did only make certain modules or the ones for certain countries DDR3 and DDR2 for others? I asked a sales rep today and he seemed confused about this issue and asked me to call some other number. I'm tired of calling different people. They should know this!!
