hey guys my sisters laptop, a dell studio 1535, recently white screened. i know its not the motherboard because the laptop still starts and when i plug it into a tv it works fine (shows the desktop etc.) ... i googled the problem and it said it is one of two issues if it isnt the motherboard. either the plug is not connected correctly or the lcd is bad. yesterday i took her laptop apart and made sure the plug was securely connected, but it is still white screening. so im pretty sure its the lcd. so now im curious if i can test her laptop with my lcd. i have a studio 1555. i would think they are the same but i know that her laptop has an inverter below the lcd and i dont remember mine having an inverter or at least mine was different than hers. just curious and thanks for your help. i think it will be good to test it before i go and order a new lcd! thanks!

The 1555 probably has an LED screen while your 1535 probably has a CCFL screen. If the display/motherboard connector is the same on both machines, you can certainly see if the 1555 screen works with the 1535 motherboard.

If the 1555 screen does work with the 1535 motherboard, you can pretty much guarantee that your 1535 screen is bad; however, if the 1555 screen doesn't work with the 1535 motherboard, I'd say you can't guarantee that your 1535 screen isn't bad.

Ya the Studio 1555 is an LED while the 1535 is CCFL, will not work. White screen I'd likely say the LCD is bad and just replace it. Could be an off chance it is the inverter but you won't know until you replace 1 part with a known good part.

You could have a motherboard problem. Not very likely since the external display still works. The motherboard could have an issue with the connector for the built in screen & not the other screen outputs. If you come to a conclution that it may be your motherboard, I have a used one that I could sell.

ok so update on the repair, i ordered a replacment lcd but failed to realize there is a difference in 1535 lcd's. the one i ordered came without and inverter or a port/plug to use the current inverter so i need to return it and get the right lcd for it. that is unless the lcd panel i ordered (that doesnt have an inverter) can still work with the laptop by just pulling out the inverter. i doubt i can be that lucky but just curious.

    thanks
