I got a dell 1545 for cheap from my friend when she tried to reformat it and accidentally installed 2 windows vista partitions on it, and summarily lost the install cd.
SO, i reformatted it and put non dell windows xp on it, And the driver manager won't work for non dell OS's. I was able to get all but the audio codec from random FTP sites and the like. The device manager says "This device cannot start. (Code 10) IDT High Definition audio codec" when i download r264250.exe (which i found here prior to posting) It says its for vista only. Any advice? It'd be awesome to have sound...

    You can:

    1) Try harder to find the XP version of your driver. Look for another Dell with the same audio device that has XP drivers?

    2) Contact Dell and see if they'll give you a new disk. They usually pretty good about it, warranty or not.

    3) See if you can find the thread that gives links to legal Vista downloads. You can make your own disks, but you'll have to activate with the CoA.
