    Hey guys,

I have a 1558 with m540 2.53 i5 processor 6gb ram and a 500gb hard disk. Am planning to put in a ssd. I want to know if anyone has had any issues running a intel 330 or 520 120gb ssd with their 1558. Any tips or bios options i need to turn off. Anything i should know about before getting my self into this ?.

    Thanks

I wouldn't worry about compatibility or tweaks; SSDs are generally mature enough these days such that this should "just work".

Thanks commander, people get bsods and all sorts of stuff. Is this due to generic problems regarding ssd's or problems with ssd's and that chip set. In my case hm55

I think that's mainly people getting dud/DoA drives rather than a compatibility issue. Some brands/lines have a higher dud rate than others. In particular, OCZ and Sandforce have been problem children in the past. If you want to minimize the chance of getting a bad drive, get Samsung. The Intel 330/520 should be okay, though.

Yeah my 1st choice was samsung but its unavailable in my country so i have to go a intel. Between the 330 and 520 am not sure which to go for. The price difference is about 20$, but i doubt that i will feel a diffrence because am running it on a sata 2. So the next thing will be reliability. So which one should i go for.

Performance wise, there is not much difference between the 330 and 520. The 520 supposedly uses higher quality NAND (though both are synchronous NAND), but they are pretty similar otherwise. You won't notice any real world difference (and it is already bottlenecked by you being on SATA 2). Intel is known for their reliability, so both are good choices.

In the US, the 520 has a 5 year warranty vs the 330's 3 year warranty. It might be different where you live.
