    Hi,

after i ordered my dell e1705/9400, i found ut that it doesnt have a pcmicia slot, hence I can't use an audigy 2 zs pcmcia card to use digital out or analogue 7.1

Does the dell 1705/9400 have an spdif-out which i can use? If not I think i will have to opt for an external audigy 2 nx to drive my gigaworks 7.1 speakers.

If anyone has any other ideas, he's more than welcome to post :)

    thanks

    regards
    macachia

There are a few topics on this board about the s/pdif output on the 1705. Have you reviewed those topics? I'd hate to repeat information.

Oh, the external audigys seem to be good options in any case. They will of course give you surround gaming, too.

    hi,

    thanks for the replies

i already have an ''old'' live 24bit external, so i guess i can use that..unless i really want full 7.1 support and have to get the audigy 2 nx

with regards to that adapter..i can just use the spdif-out and leave the other video outs ''empty''?

    thanks for the info

Yes, I think so. (I haven't got mine yet...). I plan to use it that way too, as my TV is crappy but my surround system is nice.

Check the e1705 manual, too - the adapter is depicted there.

I read several posts on the Dell forums that take the opposite position. In order to get audio, you must hook up all the connections. Sounds odd, I admit, but that's what others have reported. We'll know for sure once mini gets the adapter and reports back any success stories.

I'll see what I can find out from people who own this adapter.

Your best bet is to call Dell spare parts, they should know.

BUT, rexian on notebookforums has the exact same adapter as me, and it works for both of us (e1705 and M1710).

In the meantime, for digital 5.1 gaming, check out the Sondigo Callisto at http://www.sondigo.com/callisto
