I've bought my dell from someone, and its a bit under a year old. in very good physical shape.

the first issue is that when i connect earphones, i keep hearing a hiss noise which i cant get rid of. this doesnt come out of the speakers.
This is a sign of low quality build usually/bad onboard soundcard.
do you guys get this too, or is this faulty only for me ?

also, another weird issue, is something to do with the mouse or keyboard. the keyboard seems to auto-press the home key or something, i'm not sure exactly what. but i've been using the computer for only a day now.

might want to open up the notebook and see whats wrong with the sound card.

    sometimes something its just loose.

for the keyboard problem, pop the key out and see whats wrong. sometimes dust accumulates.

I think there is on going issue with microphones and headphone jack on 700m. I haven’t plugged in a headphone in a while, but mine was working fine when I plugged it in to watch DVD on the flight 3 months ago, but as far as microphone goes I have a problem with it, just like many people in Dell Support Forums. As you have guessed, there are definite low quality issue with many Inspiron 700m jacks.
The main thing that you should be concerned about is home button being pressed all the time. I have never heard of that problem. Can it be your thumbs are touching touchpad as you type? I had little trouble getting used to its small sized keyboards and touchpad when I first got my 700m, as I typed I accidentally touched touchpad and the cursor got out of the place. I hope this is the problem that you have. If it’s not touchpad, my guess is something might have gotten inside of your keypad near the power button or original owner messed up something when the person opened it up for memory upgrade or mod. If you can, contact that person and ask a specific issue you are having, or if you have transferred the ownership of your 700m just contact Dell and have them fix it since it’s under 1 year old. Opening up laptop is/and can be fun experience, but it can be daunting task for some.

well, only been using the laptop two days now, and I used to have an IBM X-series before, so i'm still not used to the keyboard, but it could be that i'm touching it somewhere.
I'm trying to keep track of that, but it doesnt happen all the time, so I still cant pinpoint on whats wrong.

thanks for the link (which has a solution for the audio problem! ), i'll do it soon when I have time !
