How or where do I find out if my display on the Dell Inspiron 8000 I was just given is made by Hitachi or Samsung? At issue is whether or not I can install the GeForce4 GO 64MB card as mentioned at bay-wolf.com for this machine.

PC Wizard didn't give the manufacturer. Is there another way to find out?

Do you mean the LCD ? If so, then go to Device Manager > Monitors > Generic PnP Monitor > Properties > Details > Hardware IDs > MONITOR\ModelNumber. From what I’ve read,Samsung LCDs have model numbers starting with SEC (i.e. SEC3157)

BTW what does that has to do with installing a VGA card  Any LCD panel made for a DELL i8000 should work with any VGA card compatible with a i8000.

Bay-wolf site says I can upgrade above dell's max of 32mb for the card. But only a Samsung display would be ok. Here's the blurb:

nVIDIA GeForce4 Go 64mb 5J149 Hitachi displays seem to cause power issues with this card that will not allow you to boot. The Samsung displays seem to be ok.
