I'm looking at the specs for dell 8600 and dell 700m.

dell 8600 has ultrasharp screen and dell 700m has crystal clear screen. Whats the difference? is crystal clear screen the same as HP's brightview? thanks...

They're different. One's glossy and one's very high resolution and matte. It depends on what you want. You're comparing two very different machines as well, but that's another story.

Thank you for the quick reply.

So is the crystal-clear screen from dell 700m better than the ultrasharp from dell 8600?

    What is the ultrasharp?

Yes, Crystal Clear is Dell's version of the enhanced display.

    Hi Brian and all,

Thanks for clarifying the UltraSharp vs. CrystalClear terminology... but I'm still trying to understand the advantage of having a "glossy" screen over hi-res matte?

    Thx.

The Ultrasharp really doesnt mean much. I've got an i8600 with the basic crappy screen, which is supposedly "ultrasharp." Just a basic 1280x800 resolution on a matte screen. The glossy screens look really nice (my wife has an Acer with one). So the advantage would be they look much better. Also, some say they have a greater viewing angle, but I actually think the regular matte screen on the i8600 has a pretty good veiwing angle too. Just a matter of preference. While they definately look alot better, some people don't like the glare that they can produce. My opinion, the glossy screens are much nicer, but I am too cheap to pay the extra money. But in this case, it's a matter of which comuter. I'd go to some place that sells laptops and check out one with a glossy screen. If you like it, go for it. Hope that helps you.[ :)]
