I just received a new Dell Inspiron 9100, Pentium 4HD, 3.2GHz, 1GB DDR 400MHz2, 100GB IDE Ultra-ATA HD. I ordered the 9100 because I wanted the power and speed, and something that would last for a while. I would really prefer something a little lighter, but the lighter ones did not offer the GHz's
Should I just get used to the weight, or is there something out there better?

You might have gotten too hung up on GHz numbers. The Pentium M 2.0GHz processor can perform very close to a 3.2GHz Pentium 4HD...it's not all about clock cycles of the CPU in determining processor effectiveness and speed and this is why Intel is trying to ween consumers off of looking at such numbers.

If you find the weight of the 9100 is overbearing then you should look at lighter Pentium M machines with a 14" or 15" screen. There are some 14"/15" notebooks with Pentium 4 processors and are lighter than the 9100 (I think the Inspiron 5160 can be configured with a 3.2GHz P4 and is lighter than the 9100) but the majority 5lb - 6lb notebooks with good performance will have a Pentium M.

yo they just replaced the 9100 with the 17 inch 1. that is a PM like abaxter said is good, and is as powerful as the xps or 9100 (besides the GPU)

I would feel like i got ripped off if after paying 2grand for my 9100 it weighed any less then it does. Its size and weight makes it feel like u got your money's worth..if what? 9lbs is too heavy..you need to get out of the office and into the gym.

    Inspiron 9100- 3.2ghz P4 HT - 1gb RAM - 100GB HD - 4x dvd/cd burner -128mb ATI 9700.

no im not sayin that 9 lbs is 2 heavy, im saying notebooks are made for travel, and obviously by looks anyone can tell the 9100 and xps were not made for the guy who flys every month, and brings his laptop to work every day. If its thicker than my LCD Moniter for my desktop, its not notebook-worthy. Plus alienware, hp, cyberpower, sony they all pack more stuff into thin desktop replacements and all ov a sudden u got dells which is like as heavy as a slightly overweight baby and as thick as a Harry Potter book. the 9200 is definetaly an improvement they should just get rid of the xps now and put a 9800 in the 9200
