i just got my dell "previously ordered new" yesterday and all is well. i have the dreaded samsung screen :)rolleyes: ) but i am living with it.

i have been using the intel PROset wireless program to manage my wireless connection (i've also used the windows-based one on this laptop as well) and my signal quality isn't that great. all my other laptops i've had here in the past few months (and there's been quite a few) have had "excellent" signal quality.

ok, i just looked at it:
signal strength: five out of five bars
signal quality: good (two less than excellent)

so, does that mean the problem is with my router (wireless access point) or my wireless card? my wireless network is a b/g router and i think it's using "b" at the moment, just an FYI

are there any drivers that would fix this? i have the 2200 intel wireless card, i believe. anyone else having this problem?

any thoughts or help would be greatly appreciated. thank you!

You might get more help in the Networking section. I have an XPS m140 and get 5/5 anywhere in the house. While an older dell that I have only gets 3/5 in some places. Have you tried updating your divers for the intel wireless 2200 card? You could try logging onto dells site and searching for drivers updates for your card.

Oh 2200, bane of my existence!

Talk about a hit or miss card. Aside from checking for a drivers update, you might want to check the card settings as well; some of the defaults aren't set for maximum performance, and (if I recall) there are a few that are, but don't actually work if it's checked as default..... uncheck and fiddle with the slider, possibly.

For me, I got my best signal/quality by upping to Intel's latest drivers, and using the Windows utility rather than the ProSet. As mentioned above, you might want to check out the driver set Dell has on their page first, and then go from there.
