I've been trying to configure a Dell Inspiron 1420 over and over again using coupons/% off's in different sections such as home & home office, EPP, affiliate program, etc. and I can't seem to get it for under $1300 (final price, tax & other fees included) with DellCare Plus.
Without the warranty, I can easily take it down to less than $1050 final price, but something's telling me I NEED THE WARRANTY because I'm starting college and judging by my luck -- I know ACCIDENTS WILL HAPPEN.
Here are my upgrades:
- Alpine White
- Intel® Core 2 Duo T7300 (2.0GHz)
- Genuine Windows Vista® Home Premium Edition
- 128MB NVIDIA® GeForce® 8400M GS
- CD / DVD writer (DVD+/-RW Drive)
- Built-in Bluetooth capability (2.0 EDR)
- Integrated 2.0 Megapixel Webcam
- 6-cell Primary Battery and 9-cell additional Lithium Ion Battery
- Dell Travel Remote Control, IR
Was anyone successful in getting a 3 year warranty + accidental damage/LoJack protection for less than $1,300? Or maybe I'm asking the wrong question: is it even POSSIBLE to get it that cheap?
My school doesn't start until September 21st so should I just wait for "better deals" to come along? From what I've been reading, the deals didn't get any better. The coupons week ago seemed to come out to cheaper systems...

I've had my Toshiba for around 2 years and I have yet to run into any problems with the hardware. Considering that I take average care of my laptop, you can definitely get by with just a one year warranty. Plus with a 14" I don't expect you'll be lugging that thing around to class all the time either.
Its best to order now and wait for better deals to come. That way if they don't you won't get stiffed on the delivery date. You can always cancel and reorder without any repercussions should better deals arise. -
you can bargain with them to give you Complete Care for dirt cheap

its completely possible.

I configured this on EPP, including 4% off coupon for using DPA:

thank you for the responses. I will be calling them then to place my order. By the way, there's a kiosk at the mall near my house. Is it better to order from there than over the phone?
zadillo, thanks for the specs, but if you add the 2.0 processor (75), plus webcam (50)+ alpine white (50), that'd be over $1300 for sure. i guess, when I think about it, i dont really need the color and the webcam ...
pragun, yours came out really cheap, but that's after some delay compensation -
Regarding the CPU; do you know yet what you plan on using the laptop for? That is, are you sure you need the 2.0 GHz CPU? -
I got my 1420 without the webcam, since I figure it'll take up some battery life, even when not in use. I ordered over the phone and the guy said he'd also give me an additional $50 discount, though I don't think I got it. However, the system did get under $1300 after excluding the mouse and the home efficiency bundle that I purchased.
