i know this is the *notebook* forum but i figured someone had one of these here.

anyhow, i'm looking into a dell E310, P4 Processor 521 (2.80GHz, 800MHz FSB, 1MB L2 cache) and i'm wondering if people have any experience with these. i know dell isn't the greatest but i need a cheap desktop to do the web and rip music (btw, if someone does have one, what sorts of speeds can these rip CDs with via itunes?). general comments on these (and this P4) would be welcome. TIA

I have a Dell Dimension 8300 desktop with a Pentium 4 3.2GHz, HT-enabled. In Febuary, it will be three years that I've had it.

Zero issues to report, has run flawlessly since day one.

The Pentium 4 is very fast with encoding, so you'll have no problem with importing songs.

Have you also looked at HP's lineup of desktops? Their Athlon 64 models are very attractive.

haven't looked at HP but i will now, thanks for the heads up. haven't had too many good experiences with their stuff but it's been a while.

what kinds of speeds are you getting from your P4 (for ripping CDs that is) and what sort of drive are you using?
